Brown Sugar Brownies

Brown Sugar Brownies

2/3 cup (175 mL) butter
2 1/4 cups (550 mL) brown sugar, packed firm
4 eggs
2 2/3 cups (675 mL) flour, sifted
2 tsp (10 mL) baking powder
1 tsp (5 mL) salt
1 cup (250 mL) chopped pecans (or walnuts)
1 pkg (6 oz/200 g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/4 cup (50 mL) icing sugar, sifted
Melt butter and remove from heat. Stir in the brown sugar. Beat in the eggs, one at a time. Sift the flour, baking powder, and salt together. Stir into the brownie mixture. Add the nuts and chocolate chips. Stir until blended. Spread in a 9 x 13 inch (33 x 21 x 5) baking pan. Bake in a 350F (180C) oven for 25 to 30 minutes. Cool and cut into 2 inch squares. Dust lightly with icing sugar.

Makes 24 brownies.
